The World Turkish Business Council (DTİK), which aims to spread the Turkish lobby to a wide audience abroad by developing commercial and economic activities among the Turkish business community residing abroad, is adding a new one to the events it has realized in order to bring solutions to the problems of Turkish entrepreneurs living a settled life around the world and to increase the image of the country abroad.
Operating under the umbrella of DEİK and chaired by DEİK President Nail Olpak, DTİK brings together the most successful names of the Turkish diaspora, who have made a worldwide impact, in Istanbul on September 15-16 with the "10th Congress of the World Turkish Business Council" to be held under the auspices of the Presidency.
DTİK 10th Assembly, which will be attended by Turkish and Türkiye-friendly senior business people living abroad, managers of international companies, entrepreneurs, economists, experts, artists, athletes, politicians, bureaucrats and academicians, brings together more than 2 thousand diaspora representatives.
The population is predominantly in Germany
DEİK President Nail Olpak, in his statement regarding the DTİK Assembly, stated that there are more than 6 million Turkish diaspora living a settled life around the world, and said that the population is mainly in Germany, followed by France, the Netherlands and Austria.
Stating that there are differences from country to country due to the formation of the diaspora structure, Olpak said, "We can associate the diaspora with concepts such as migration and forced migration. However, we see it as the power created by migration rather than migration. A migration has occurred for this or that reason. How can we evaluate this migration as a power, as soft power? As DEIK and DTIK, we are working for this power to play the most effective role for Türkiye and to act as one body."
Pointing out the importance of cooperation with friendly diasporas, Olpak stated that Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pakistan and Hungary are among Türkiye's leading friendly diasporas.
Olpak stated that there is a Turkish diaspora power that Türkiye cannot use actively enough and continued as follows:
"This statement does not mean that we do not use it at all, but we cannot use it enough. And why? There is a very large Turkish population in Germany, but we have a diaspora in many countries outside Germany. For example, we have a diaspora of over 400 thousand people living in France. The Armenian population in France is almost the same. If we ask each other whether we have an effective weight or what is the perception, unfortunately our weight there is not at the level we want. There may be different reasons for this. But as DTİK, we want our diaspora to be influencing the decision-making mechanism of the country, not being affected by it."
Olpak said that as the business people, athletes and academicians in the Turkish diaspora reach a position of influence rather than influence in the country where they are located, the diaspora will pave the way for a more effective soft power.
"We expect more than 2 thousand participants to our 10th DTİK Congress"
DEIK President Olpak stated that while the citizens who cross the borders of their country on the basis of volunteerism continue to be the voice of Türkiye in the world, they have established heart bridges that will directly contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the Turkish diaspora with DTİK.
Stating that they expect more than 2 thousand participants in the congress, Olpak said that there are participants from Korea, Australia, Japan, the Republic of South Africa, mainly from Germany.
Olpak stated that they will bring together more than 2 thousand guests from abroad and business people from Türkiye with both panels and B2B meetings and said, "We will not only talk about the diaspora. We aim to increase the power of our diaspora by integrating our business people living abroad with the business people in the country and with each other more economically. In other words, we have prepared a program that will enable our participants to be active."
Olpak stated that foreign trade lost momentum in the world and continued as follows:
"The participation of more than 2 thousand people from abroad in our congress is an indicator of the commercial expectation in itself. In this sense, we do not see our congress only as a meeting to fulfill longing and increase friendship. We anticipate that this feast, where our Diaspora will come together, will also fulfill a very important task in increasing trade. We sincerely believe that our 10th congress will add a positive momentum to our diaspora, which represents its country and nation at the highest level."
"After the congress, we will organize the 13th Türkiye Investment Conference in the USA"
DEİK President Nail Olpak said that DEİK continues its activities in a very wide geography in order to strengthen the dynamics of the Turkish economy and to carry the power of the country to the world.
Reminding the $100 billion trade volume target set between Türkiye and the US, Olpak said, "We will go to New York with our President right after the World Turkish Business Council Congress. We will hold our 13th Türkiye Investment Conference with DEIK/Türkiye-US Business Council (TAIK) on September 19-20."
Stating that strategic relations with the Organization of Turkic States have become more important and that they have developed commercial diplomacy activities in this context, Olpak said that they are working to increase commercial relations with Asia and Latin America, especially Africa.
