World crude steel production increased by 0.8 % in November

World crude steel production increased by 0.8% y-o-y to 146.8 million tons (mt) in November 2024.

World crude steel production increased by 0.8 % in November

The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) announced crude steel production numbers for November 2024. Accordingly, world crude steel production of 71 countries increased by 0.8% y-o-y to 146.8 million tons (Mt) in November 2024.

Crude steel production by region

In November, crude steel production in Africa decreased by 5% y-o-y to 1.8 million tons. In the Asia and Oceania region, production increased by 2% to 107.4 million tons. The EU (27) produced 10.7 million tons of steel, an increase of 3.9%, while the rest of Europe produced 3.4 million tons, a decrease of 5.5%. Production in the Middle East increased by 2.7% to 5.1 million tons. In North America, production decreased by 5.2% to 8.5 million tons. Production in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and Ukraine decreased by 7.8% to 6.5 million tons. South America produced 3.4 million tons of crude steel, a decrease of 3.4%.

China's crude steel production increased by 2.5% y-o-y to 78.4 million tons in November.  In the said period, India's crude steel production increased by 4.5% to 12.4 million tons, while Japan produced 6.9 million tons, down 3.1%. The US produced 6.4 million tons of steel, down 2.8%, while Russia produced 5.5 million tons, a decrease of 9.2%. South Korea's production decreased by 3.6% to 5.2 million tons. Germany produced 2.9 million tons of crude steel, rising by 8.6%, Türkiye 3 million tons, up 0.7%, and Brazil 2.8 million tons, increasing by 1.9%. Iran's production increased by 0.1% to 3.1 million tons.
