voestalpine Wire Rod Austria GmbH will shut down production at its Fürstenfeld site by the end of the year and move part of its production to Bruck an der Mur until March 2024. The closure will affect 53 employees.
voestalpine's subsidiary in Fürstenfeld has been producing saw wires and other specialised wire products for the photovoltaic industry since 2012.
Despite extensive restructuring measures and investments over several years, especially in R&D, the production of saw wires for the photovoltaic industry at the Fürstenfeld site is no longer economically viable, especially due to the relocation of the European photovoltaic industry to China and the high energy costs in Austria caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war.
