According to General Department of Customs data from Vietnam, steel imports in May 2023 decreased by 18 percent month on month, amounting to 837,622 metric tons. On an annual basis, it decreased by 12% in the first five months of 2023, amounting to 4.60 million mt.
Scrap imports decreased by 49 percent month on month compared to April 2023 and amounted to 301,884 mt. On an annual basis, it increased by 8% compared to 2022 and amounted to 2.14 million mt.
Among the main countries that Vietnam imports steel from are Japan, Australia, USA and Hong Kong; among the main countries that Vietnam imports scrap from are China, Japan, India, Taiwan, South Korea and Indonesia.
