Veer Steel Mills (VSM) is a structural long steel producer based in Gauteng, South Africa, aiming to optimize locally sourced raw material and produce various steel products to the required specification and commercial quality acceptable across the country. The company's product range includes high quality equal angle, unequal angle, square, round, and flat steel bars, hot rolled steel channels, IPEs, and window sections steel.
VSM began operations in 2011 with an initial capacity of 1,500 tons of product per month. By May 2018, VSM's capacity had increased to 4,500 tons per month, driven primarily by customer demand. In response, VSM developed a growth and expansion strategy, aiming to increase production to 10,000 tons per month from January 2019, with orders totaling 80% of this capacity already confirmed.
With growth and expansion, VSM faced additional requirements, including increasing production facilities, procuring additional equipment, extending its product range, and increasing its staff complement to 700 employees. It also required a complete review and overhaul of VSM's existing IT infrastructure. With reporting currently a manual operation, time-consuming, and prone to human error, automated and accurate real-time reporting is set to make a significant difference to daily operations at VSM.
