Van Leeuwen and ArcelorMittal produce low-emission pipe

Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group and ArcelorMittal Europe have announced a new partnership to offer steel pipes with low carbon emissions.

Van Leeuwen and ArcelorMittal produce low-emission pipe

The Dutch distribution company and the steelmaker's ArcelorMittal Europe - Tubular Products unit will team up for pipes made from ArcelorMittal's proprietary XCarb steel. ArcelorMittal says XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel pipes can help customers achieve CO2 emission savings of up to 75% compared to conventionally produced steel pipes.

The partnership aims to enable companies in the construction and engineering sectors to reduce the carbon footprint embedded in the products they purchase as part of their Scope 3 emissions.

The EAFs in which XCarb is manufactured are powered by renewable sources such as wind and solar and are supplied through a recognised Guarantee of Origin (GoO) scheme. The steelmaker claims that these steel pipes are the first on the market to achieve such a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and come with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

At an event held at Van Leeuwen's headquarters in Zwijndrecht, the first truck delivery of XCarb steel pipes arrived at the warehouse.
