For the week ending on July 20th, the US recorded a small increase in crude steel production, totaling 1,739,000 tons with a capability utilization rate of 78.3%. This represents a slight increase of 3.0% compared to the same week last year, which saw a production of 1,689,000 net tons at a lower utilization rate of 74.3%.
The production also experienced a slight increase from the previous week ending July 13, during which 1,735,000 tons were produced with a utilization rate of 78.1%. This week-to-week augmentation amounted to a 0.2% increase in production.
Year-to-date figures indicate a slight downturn. As of July 20th, the year-to-date production stood at 49,043,000 net tons at a capability utilization rate of 76.5%. This is a decrease of 2.3% from the same period in the previous year, which recorded a production of 50,191,000 net tons at a utilization rate of 77.3%.
