Kerem Vaizoğlu, Managing Partner of Irpex International, spoke at the event about the long product market, the global competitiveness of Turkish steel producers, cost balances, and opportunities in the US market.
Vaizoğlu highlighted the challenges the global steel industry has faced in recent years, including fluctuations in raw material prices, energy costs, and supply chain problems, which put pressure on Turkish producers. He mentioned that if Turkey could align its production costs with global markets, it could take advantage of the trade opportunities created by US President Donald Trump’s new steel tariffs.
However, Vaizoğlu also noted that the US's current anti-dumping duties and protectionist trade policies make it harder for Turkish steel producers to expand in the US market. Additional customs duties and quota limits on exports to the US are some of the biggest factors negatively affecting the competitiveness of Turkish steel in this market.
The event also discussed strategies that Turkish steel exporters could use to strengthen their position in the US market.
In this session of Söz Sizde: Steel Talks, industry professionals and experts shared valuable insights on how global steel market changes and Turkey’s competitive advantages can be improved.
