US Steel Kosice stopped the operation of its blast furnace No2 (BF-2), which was stopped for maintenance in September 2022. According to official data, the operation of the blast furnace was restarted at the beginning of the week. BF-1, which was stopped for a month and a half due to low demand for steel products, was also restarted.
With the increase in the prices of rolled coils in Europe, the company renewed its capacity. The plant was equipped with three blast furnaces with a total capacity of 4.5 million tons of crude steel per year.
It is also stated that the ArcelorMittal company has the possibility of restarting the blast furnace in Asturias (Spain). The company also plans to restart the 4.5-million-tonne blast furnace A at its factory in Gijon (Spain) with a capacity of 4.5 million tons, with the aim of reducing production volumes.
Decreasing roll prices have led European steelmakers to decide to temporarily halt some of their capacity. Around 14-15 million tonnes of annual steel capacity in Europe has already been shut down.
