The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported a 9.8% decrease in US steel imports in September, with finished steel goods accounting for 1.57 million net tons. Hot rolled coil sheet imports increased by 49% from August but decreased by 30.7% compared to September 2022.
Hot dipped sheet and stripped galvanized steel imports increased by 1.1% but decreased by 30.6% compared to September 2022. Cold rolled coil imports decreased by 10.9% compared to September 2022 and 27.9% y-o-y.
Line pipe imports increased 19%, oil country tubular goods (OCTG) increased 16%, and cut to length plate increased 16% from October 2022 to September 2023. The top three countries providing the greatest import supply to the US in September were Canada (537,000 net tons), Brazil (450,000 net tons), and Mexico (358,000 net tons).
