The United States recorded an increase in slab imports in August, totaling 396,169 tons. This represented a 13,6% increase from July and a 16,4% increase from the previous August. The value of these imports also grew, reaching $250,3 million for the month, up from $221,9 million in July and an increase from $227,5 million recorded in August of the previous year.
Brazil was the primary source of these imports, sending 375,569 tons to the U.S. in August. This was a significant increase from the 293,472 tons Brazil exported in July and more than double the 155,475 tons sent in August of the previous year. Canada also contributed to the imports, even if on a smaller scale, with a total of 20,600 tons in August.
