According to UN Comtrade data, US steelmakers increased imports of pig iron from Ukraine by 74.7% in December 2023 compared to November - up to 116.85 thousand tons. Compared to December 2022, raw material supplies increased by 2.6 times.
Annual Ukrainian-origin pig iron consumption was at the level of 1.055 million tons, which is 91.7% more compared to the same period of 2022.
In general, since the beginning of 2023, there has been a sharp increase in exports of Ukrainian pig iron to the United States, in particular, in January and February shipments amounted to 116.9 thousand tons and 156 thousand tons, respectively.
However, shipments in September and October were at their lowest level since August 2022, when 23.4 thousand tons of pig iron was imported.
In 2023, the average monthly shipments amounted to 85.29 thousand tons, compared to 45.85 thousand tons in 2022.
