US imports of hot-dip galvanized (HDG) coil increased by 41% in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2023.
According to the data, the US imported a total of 1,417,371 tons of HDG from January to June in 2024. In the same period of 2023, this figure was 1,005,038 tons. On a monthly basis, imports of HDG showed a significant increase, especially between February and June.
In May 2024, imports reached 274,811 tons, a significant increase compared to the 188,599 tons imported in May 2023. In June 2024, imports increased by 46.9% to 238,809.4 tons compared to the same month in 2023.
According to June 2024 data, Canada was the largest supplier of HDG to the US. Imports from Canada increased to 79,435.5 tons from 77,634.0 tons in June 2023. Imports from Vietnam increased by 385.2% to 39,249.2 tons in June 2024 from 8,089.6 tons in June 2023.
Imports from Brazil also increased, rising by 25.3% to 21,815.5 tons from 17,414.6 tons in June 2023. Imports from other countries also experienced a notable increase, reaching 98,309.3 tons in June 2024. This figure represented a 65.5% increase compared to the 59,403.3 tons of imports recorded in the same month of 2023.
According to the data, US imports of HDG increased in the first half of 2024. This was mainly driven by imports from countries such as Canada, Vietnam and Brazil.
