USDOC data shows that in May, the US imported 72,000 tons of hot-rolled steel bars, a 20% increase from the previous month but a 11% drop from the previous year.
Canada was the largest importer, with 29,000 tons, an 8.1% increase and a 28.5% y-o-y drop. Japan and Brazil were the main sources, with 14,500 and 11,300 tons respectively.
The import value was around $100 million, up 17% m-o-m and 14.3% y-o-y.
