The European Steel Association (EUROFER) issued a joint statement of the European social partners and IndustriAll European Trade Union, calling for urgent action to protect the European steel industry and jobs.
The iron and steel industry, which is the largest source of income for the European industry, is one of the areas with the highest employment in the European Union. With the energy crisis, rising raw material prices and rising inflation, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Europe to protect sectors and job positions.
Inflation reached 10% in the European steel industry, which faces much higher bills than other steel producing regions due to energy and carbon costs.
Due to these reasons, the European social partners are calling on the authorities to support industrial decarbonisation projects and energy infrastructure, while encouraging companies to invest in factories and workers.
