Urban restrictions extended in Shanghai to April 26

It has been reported that the intra-city movement restrictions applied to combat the Kovid-19 epidemic triggered by cases carrying the Omicron variant in Shanghai, China, have been extended until April 26.

In the statement made by the Local Health Commission, it was stated that it was decided to extend the duration of the restrictions due to the presence of new cases in the regions that were declared as low risk and where freedom of movement was brought, since there were no cases in the last 14 days.

The movement restriction prevents citizens, health personnel, volunteers and couriers living in the said areas from moving between the regions.

Health officials emphasized that in order to prevent intra-community spread, mass tests will be continued in all settlements at varying intervals according to the risk of infection, and each case will be followed.

Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the fight against Kovid-19 in Shanghai, Sun Chunlan, gave the message that the "zero case" strategy would not be compromised, and that every case in the city should be followed, isolated and treated.

In Shanghai, the largest city of China, 2 thousand 634 cases showing signs of disease and 15 thousand 698 cases that did not show were detected in the last 24 hours, while 11 people died.

In the last epidemic wave in the city, 443 thousand 500 cases have been seen since March 1, while 36 people have been confirmed to have died in the last 4 days.

The city, which has a self-governing province in the status of a province, became the place where the most cases were seen in mainland China.

The gradual closure announced on March 28 due to the cases triggered by the Omikron variant in Shanghai was extended indefinitely in the whole city as the cases did not decrease.

The prolongation of the lockdown measures in the city caused difficulties in the delivery of food and the provision of care services.

Although the health authorities have started to lift the curfews in areas where there has been no case in the last 14 days by dividing the city with a population of over 26 million into high, medium and low risk zones, curfews and mass tests continue in most of the city.

According to the statement made by the National Health Commission of China, 2 thousand 133 cases showing signs of disease and 16 thousand 465 cases without symptoms were detected in the last 24 hours in mainland China.

In China, where 96 cases originating from abroad were recorded in the last 24 hours, 11 people died due to the virus.

Chinese health authorities do not include cases that do not show symptoms of the disease even though the Kovid-19 test is positive.

It is noteworthy that the gap between the number of cases that turned into a disease and that did not turn into a disease in the country in recent weeks has been widening. This is considered to be the result of the spread of the "BA.2" mutation of the Omicron variant, which is highly contagious but has a mild disease state.

In the mainland of China, where the first cases emerged in the Kovid-19 epidemic, 196 thousand 86 cases have been detected so far, 4 thousand 674 people have died.
