While Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues on its 15th day, diplomatic efforts based on Turkey have intensified in recent days.
Before the trilateral meetings, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held bilateral meetings with both parties.
Çavuşoğlu held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba in Antalya before the Russia-Ukraine-Turkey trilateral foreign ministers meeting to be held at the margin of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF).
Çavuşoğlu also met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov before the meeting.
On the other hand, it was stated that NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg will come to Turkey tomorrow to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
In the statement made by the Kremlin, it was noted that the Lavrov-Kuleba meeting is expected to conclude and that the summit held in Turkey could pave the way for the Putin-Zelenskiy meeting.
The two ministers made separate statements after the meeting.
After the meeting, Kuleba held a press conference. Kuleba stated:
We discussed the 24-hour ceasefire issue. We have not made any progress in this regard. Again, I will be ready for the interview in this format. When the two foreign ministers meet, issues of peace and security need to be addressed. Our aim is to end the war in Ukraine, while at the same time clearing our lands from the Russian occupation forces. Russia wants surrender, Ukraine will not surrender. Russia said it would continue its attacks until its demands are met. Everything was running smoothly at our nuclear facilities before the Russian troops arrived. Russia should withdraw its troops from nuclear and gas facilities.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also made a press statement after the meeting.
Lavrov said: We want real negotiations not to be misused. There is nothing that can replace negotiation. Here we discussed humanitarian issues. We explained the measures taken by our military units to prevent civilians from being harmed. Civilians are used as shields by volunteer battalions. We repeated the request to open a humanitarian corridor on a daily basis. We want a radical solution to the Ukrainian crisis. Russia wants serious negotiations with Ukraine in Belarus.
We will not attack other countries, nor have we attacked Ukraine. There was such a situation that Russia's security was threatened. We tried to explain this for a long time.
Those who send weapons to Ukraine should know that they are responsible for their actions. Those who encourage hired fighters will also be responsible for this.
There are many allegations of crimes committed by the Russian armed forces. However, it was stated that this maternity hospital was previously seized by the Azov Battalions, and doctors and health workers were evacuated from there. There is a lot of manipulation involved.
We want a radical solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
Possible Putin-Zelensky meeting was discussed. Putin does not avoid meeting with Zelensky. Preparations should be made for this, and an agreement should be reached on this issue.
