UK steelmakers appealed for support to the industry with a petition to Prime Minister Rishi Sunaku. Among those who have asked the government to support the industry are employees of UK Tata Steel, British Steel, Liberty Steel, Celsa Steel and Outokumpu.
Stating that the increase in energy prices and cheap imports had a negative impact on the industrial sector, UK Trade Unions Secretary General Roy Rickhus stated that government support is needed to correct the difficult situation the steel industry is in.
Stating that the steel industry has been adversely affected by the global economic conditions, a representative of the UK government stated that the government continues to work in cooperation with the industry to ensure a stable and competitive environment in the steel industry.
