The UK government, which has decided to impose a tax on new and existing electric vehicles from April 2025, aims to prevent the income gap created by the use of electric vehicles with this tax. Electric cars, which benefited from the zero vehicle consumption tax in the first year of registration and in the following years, caused an income deficit of approximately 7 billion pounds in the Treasury. With the newly agreed tax, electric vehicles registered on or after 1 April 2025 will pay £10 per year in the first year and £165 per year, the standard rate from the second year.
