Trade and Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds is holding talks with Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi, as the British government focuses on the South Asian country for a deal that will contribute to economic growth.
Reynolds said on Tuesday that a free trade agreement between the two countries would bring significant gains for both sides. He emphasized that reaching an agreement with India is a priority for him and his government.
The talks come at a time when countries are seeking new markets amid uncertainty in global trade and US President Donald Trump's protectionist trade policies.
The planned free trade agreement between the UK and India is considered one of the biggest economic achievements for the UK after Brexit. While India is expected to become the world's third largest economy by 2028, the agreement is expected to significantly increase the trade volume between the two countries.
