Turkey's highest steel production took place in 2021

Turkey's annual crude steel production figures have varied over the last five years.

In 2018, Turkey produced 37.31 million tons of crude steel, while in 2019, crude steel production decreased by 9.56% to the lowest level in the last five years.

In 2019, Turkey produced 33.74 million tons of crude steel, which increased by 5.88% in 2020.

During the pandemic, while the world's steel production shrank in 2020, only five countries including Turkey (China, Vietnam, Russia, Iran) showed growth. Other major producers such as the US, Japan, Germany, Italy, and India showed a decline of around 10-20%. With China focusing on domestic consumption and reducing its exports compared to previous years, Turkey exported a significant amount of steel to the Far East and Southeast Asia markets that were left vacant by China.

Turkey's steel production, which began to increase in 2020, reached its highest level in the last five years in 2021.

In 2021, Turkey produced 35.2 million tons of crude steel, but this decreased by 11.78% in 2022 to 35.2 million tons.
