Turkey, which has 73 percent of the world's boron reserves, is putting into use one of the first and strategic facilities.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in Turkey, which has 73 percent of the world's boron reserves, Eti Maden set a record with a sales revenue of $ 1 billion 321 million last year.
Turkey's first boron carbide plant, which will be one of Turkey's first and strategic facilities and will add strength to the strength of the defense industry, will be opened on Sunday, March 19 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir.
The plant, where 279 people will be employed when it operates at full capacity, will produce 1000 tons of boron carbide per year. Boron carbide, which is the third hardest substance after diamond and cubic boron, is used in many areas, especially in the defense industry.
Turkey Has 73 Percent of World Boron Reserves
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, whose views were included in the statement, stated that Turkey has started to reap the fruits of the steps it has taken in recent years in boron and said, "We convert boron ore into boric acid and its wastes into lithium and sell it. Apart from this, we are also increasing the areas of use. As a matter of fact, these steps we have taken bring us records. We set a record in boron exports for two consecutive years. New facilities and an increased portfolio of value-added products were required for the new records. We will have done this with this facility."
Pointing out that the value of the ore will increase even more with the processing of boron, Dönmez said, "The added value in boron ore has increased to 7 times in refined products such as boric acid, 300 times in products such as boron carbide, 2 thousand times in the armor sector where boron carbide is used, and even 35 thousand times in the rocket nozzle making sector."
