Turkey's scrap imports from the EU decreased by 12.7% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year
Although Turkey's scrap imports from the EU decreased by 12.7% to 2 million 723 tonnes in the January-March period compared to the same period of the previous year, it maintained its first place as the region from which Turkey imports the most scrap.
The USA and the UK followed the EU with 959 thousand tonnes and 488 thousand tonnes, respectively.
In January-March 2023 period, scrap imports from the European Union and the USA decreased by 12.7% and 14.2%, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year.
On the other hand, scrap imports from the UK increased by 20.5% from 405 thousand 112 tonnes to 488 thousand 343 tonnes.
Thus, Turkey maintained its 3rd place in scrap imports from the UK as the top supplier.
Turkey's scrap imports from the Middle East increased by 38.3% to 4th place in the January-March 2023 period
Scrap imports from the Middle East, which ranked 7th with 163,767 tonnes in the first quarter of 2022, increased to 4th place with 226,441 tonnes in the January-March period of this year.
Turkey's scrap imports from North African countries decreased by 5.6 per cent
Turkey's scrap imports from North African countries decreased by 5.6% y-o-y from 202 thousand 170 tonnes to 190 thousand 814 tonnes.
Scrap imports from Latin America decreased by 2 ranks compared to January-March period of last year
Turkey's scrap imports from Latin America decreased by 59.4% from 439,978 tonnes to 178,454 tonnes.
On the other hand, while Latin America ranked 4th in the January-March period of last year, it decreased to 6th place in the first quarter of this year.
Scrap imports from the CIS decreased sharply in January-March 2023
Turkey's scrap imports from the CIS, which ranked 3rd in the first quarter of last year, decreased by 97% to 7th place in the January-March period of this year.
Turkey's scrap imports from Far East countries decreased by 73.4 per cent
In January-March 2022, imports from Far East countries ranked 8th. In the first quarter of this year, scrap imports decreased from 412 thousand tonnes to 376 thousand tonnes.
Finally, Turkey's scrap imports from other countries decreased by 63.5% from 428,324 tonnes to 156,324 tonnes.
