Together, we will overcome this disaster by bandaging the wounds
Following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that affected 10 provinces, iron and steel factories in the Iskenderun region suspended production.
Making an official statement on the subject, Veysel Yayan, Secretary General of the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD), stated that the focus was on healing the wounds in the region after the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes, "Production in the steel mills in the provinces affected by the disaster has stopped due to the conditions, but other companies will close the production gap by increasing capacity utilization rates."
Stating that all companies in the region called their personnel to the factory areas after the earthquake, Yayan said, "Tents are set up for the earthquake victims and their families, and they are provided to stay in lodgings. They are given 3 meals a day. Some of the personnel were also directed to search and rescue activities. Other steel companies outside the earthquake zone have also directed construction machinery and personnel to the region to help."
Yayan pointed out that there was no destruction in the facilities of the sector companies in the earthquake region, and stated that production in the steel factories in these provinces stopped due to the conditions, but that other companies would close the production gap by increasing the capacity utilization rates. Yayan said, "In summary, there is no negative situation for the steel sector after the earthquake. Together, we will overcome this disaster by bandaging the wounds."
Also, on Tuesday, officials asked the TÇÜD for feedback on the possibility of rebar prices stabilizing over the next 3-4 months, for discussion in the Council of Ministers. 4 million tons of rebar needed for the reconstruction of the earthquake areas will be met from the domestic market. This gives rebar producers hope for market direction.
