TIM President Gültepe "The automotive sector had the highest contribution to our exports in August with 2.7 billion dollars"

Mustafa Gültepe, President of the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TIM), reported that they closed August, one of the critical months in terms of year-end targets, with a record. Emphasizing that they reached the highest export figure in August, Gültepe continued as follows: "According to the General Trade System (GTS) records, we completed August with exports of 21.6 billion dollars. We are 1.6 percent higher than the same month of last year. Exports, which have been positive one month and negative one month compared to the same period of the previous year for a while, broke this cycle by rising in August after July. When we look at the January-August period, we are almost at par with last year with 165 billion dollars. In the last 12 months, exports amounted to 253.6 billion dollars. In August, the automotive sector made the highest contribution to our exports with 2.7 billion dollars. Our other sectors in the top five were chemicals with 2.6 billion dollars, ready-to-wear clothing with 1.7 billion dollars, electronics with 1.4 billion dollars and steel with 1.3 billion dollars."

"One thousand 472 companies exported for the first time in August"

Mustafa Gültepe, who said that we recorded a significant increase in the exports of the ship and yacht, cereals and machinery sectors last month, said, "While 36 provinces increased their exports, our top five exporting provinces were Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir and Gaziantep. One thousand 472 companies exported for the first time in August. Our unit export value increased by 10 percent compared to the same month of last year to 1.41 dollars. The parity difference contributed 715 million dollars to our exports last month. The parity contribution in the last 5 months reached 2.2 billion dollars. The countries we exported the most in August were Germany, the USA, Iraq, the United Kingdom and Italy. We broke export records to 8 countries, including Kazakhstan, Norway and Somalia."

"Target 100 trade delegations in 2023"

Mustafa Gültepe stated that they are mobilizing all means to achieve their export targets and said that they are working to strengthen their activities in the main markets on the one hand and to find new markets on the other.

Reminding that they focus on trade and procurement delegations in line with the goal of increasing market diversity, Gültepe said, "In August, we organized trade delegations with wide participation in Brazil and Chile. We have an intensive delegation program again in September. We are planning to organize trade delegations to Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Oman and Benin this month with our exporter associations. We are step by step approaching our target of 100 trade delegations for 2023."

"A loan protocol of 1 billion dollars was signed"

Mustafa Gültepe underlined that financing is of vital importance in order to reach the targets in exports and said the following about their efforts to meet the increasing financing needs of exporters in the recent period: "On August 28, we signed a credit protocol with 11 banks with a volume of 1 billion dollars. Within the framework of the protocol, our companies will be able to use cost-effective export credits up to 5 million dollars or 100 million TL. Our exporters will be able to choose from revolving or installment loan options. I wish that the new credit package will be beneficial to all exporters. We are in contact to expand the package according to the conditions. I believe that these negotiations will be concluded positively and we will provide more exporters with loans with favorable conditions."

Mustafa Gültepe added that they are working with banks on a different financing mechanism for financing green transformation.
