ThyssenKrupp and Autoliv agree to supply low carbon steel

ThyssenKrupp's Materials Processing Europe has reached an agreement with Autoliv, a specialist in the supply of safety systems for the automotive industry, for the supply of low CO2 steel.

ThyssenKrupp and Autoliv agree to supply low carbon steel

ThyssenKrupp Materials Processing Europe will produce bluemint® steel with a reduced carbon footprint at its DRI plant in Duisburg and will supply Autoliv with the steel from the end of 2026. Thus, ThyssenKrupp will help the automotive industry to decarbonise with the bluemint® steel it will supply. The two companies, which have a goal of complete CO2 neutrality in steel by 2030, have taken a step towards sustainability with their first joint project, recycled bluemint®. Autoliv also aims to achieve net zero emissions in its supply chain by 2040.

Cosmin Bakai, Autoliv Global Raw Material Regional Director: "We are constantly working to integrate sustainability into all our operations. Our cooperation with thyssenkrupp Materials Processing will be an important step in our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our products by using low-emission steel and to achieve our goal of net zero emissions in our supply chain by 2040.’’
