The import of flat steel products to the United States in September 2023 decreased by 11% to 631 thousand short tons compared to 706 thousand short tons in the same month of 2022. Among all October volumes, the most significant reductions were observed in the supply of cold-rolled steel from Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, and Canada. Conversely, the import of thick sheet metal increased from countries such as Romania, Germany, Canada, and Malaysia.
Over the first ten months of the current year, the aforementioned import demonstrated a year-on-year decrease of 19%. Of the 10-month import volumes, cold-rolled steel imports fell by 27%, hot-dip galvanized steel decreased by 25%, thick sheet metal increased by 23%, and hot-rolled steel decreased by 17%, all comparisons on an annual basis.
