The obligation to make payments in Turkish Lira has been lifted

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance published the Regulation on Amending the Communiqué on Decree No. 32 on the Protection of the Value of the Turkish Currency in the Official Gazette.

The obligation to make payments in Turkish Lira has been lifted

With the regulation published in the Official Gazette, the principles for the implementation of the ban on payments in foreign currency have been reorganized. Accordingly, the obligation for all payments to be made in Turkish Lira has been lifted.

According to the provisions in the regulation, obligations from the past, as stipulated in the 6 articles, can be fulfilled in foreign currency. The areas where payments can be made in foreign currency are listed as follows:


- Securities denominated in foreign currency
- Invoices issued before 19/4/2022
- Precious metal trading transactions conducted in foreign currency on the stock exchange
- Exports to be carried out through Foreign Trade Capital Companies
- Payment obligations of warehouses and temporary storage areas
- Delivery of goods by companies operating in free trade zones
