The European Commission announced that due to technical difficulties with emission reporting under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), declarants were given an additional 30 days as of 1 February.
As previously reported, it was known that the first emission reporting period would end on 31 January 2024.
Importers without technical problems still have to submit their emission reports by 31 January. Declarants will also have the possibility to amend and correct the first three CBAM reports until 31 July 2024.
According to the Commission, no penalties will be imposed on declarants who have difficulties in submitting the first CBAM report in accordance with the instructions given to national competent authorities. Delays caused by system errors will be considered justified if companies submit them promptly after the problem has been resolved.
