Although it was a difficult year for exporters and industrialists due to the slowdown in the global economy, the trade volume of the Aegean Free Zone in 2024 increased by more than 2% to approximately USD 6 billion and exports increased by 3% to approximately USD 3 billion.
Dr. Faruk Güler, Chairman of the Executive Board of ESBAŞ, reminded that İzmir's exports fell by 2% last year and emphasized that the companies in the Zone outperformed İzmir's total exports and supported the economic development of the city.
Exports amounted to 22% of İzmir's exports
Prof. Dr. Faruk Güler made the following comparison to better understand the contribution of the Aegean Free Zone to the national economy
“The exports of the Aegean Free Zone are equivalent to the exports of Adana (USD 3.04 billion), which ranks 13th in Türkiye's top exporting provinces, and Kayseri (USD 2.9 billion), one of the Anatolian tigers.
22% of Izmir's exports, which amounted to USD 13.6 billion in 2024, were realized from the Aegean Free Zone. The Aegean Free Zone, which realized exports equivalent to 21% of the total exports of 8 provinces in the Aegean Region excluding Izmir (USD 14 billion), realized the highest amount of exports in the Aegean Region after İzmir, Manisa (USD 5.3 billion) and Denizli (USD 4.3 billion).
Exports As Much As 38 Provinces' Total
If we make a comparison with Türkiye in general, the total exports of 38 provinces (the total exports of the 38 provinces with the least exports are USD 2.9 billion) are barely equivalent to the exports of the Aegean Free Zone. In Türkiye, 24.27% of the exports of free zones, of which there are 19 in total, were realized from our region. (All free zones realized exports of USD 12 billion in 2024).”
