Tata Steel UK said it will suspend the operations of its businesses during peak electricity consumption hours.
According to Tata Steel UK, the Port Talbot steel mill provides more than 60% electricity thanks to the presence of its own power station. But to save money, it will shut down the sinter plant, hot and cold rolling mills, and will also supply the generated electricity to the grid.
In other plants of the company, the production of cold rolled steel and seamless pipes will be suspended during the coldest days and hours. He stated that the customers will not be affected as they will buy the products they need from the warehouse stocks.
Tata Steel UK management also acknowledges that energy-intensive steel production lines have become unprofitable during peak hours due to increases in energy prices.
