Tata Steel announced that there was a 5% increase in steel production in India during the July-September 2024 period, the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching 5.27 million tons. During this period, domestic supplies also increased by 5.8% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 5.10 million tons.

The company continued this positive trend in the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25, increasing its steel production by 5% to 10.53 million tons.

Tata Steel’s operations in the Netherlands also saw remarkable growth. Steel production increased by 41.2% annually to 1.68 million tons during this quarter. Shipments from this facility increased by 16.9% compared to the previous year, reaching 3.04 million tons.

Tata Steel UK reduced its steel production by 50% y-o-y in the quarter to a total of 0.38 million tons. The company's shipments also declined by 12.3% to 0.64 million tons. On September 30, 2024, the company shut down its last blast furnace (BF No. 4) at its Port Talbot plant, ending pig iron and primary steel production there.

In a positive development, Tata Steel India commissioned the country's largest blast furnace in Kalinganagar in September 2024. This expansion is expected to increase the company's steelmaking capacity in India to 26.6 million tons per annum.
