Tata Steel and ThyssenKrupp to Receive Largest the USA Supply Quotas

Argus estimates that replacing 25% of steel tariffs with quotas for European metallurgical companies from January 1 will allow them to increase their flat rolled product supply to the American market.

Tata Steel and ThyssenKrupp to Receive Largest the USA Supply Quotas

According to Argus' calculations, the largest annual quota will be taken by Dutch steelmaker Ijmuiden, which belongs to the Indian Tata Steel group. Of the quota, which was announced as 489.6 thousand tons, 195.8 thousand tons will be sheet metal and 195.2 thousand tons will be hot rolled steel.

ThyssenKrupp and Salzgitter from Germany receive the second largest quotas for sheet metal supplies to the United States.

At the same time, the volume of duty-free delivery of German hot rolled steel will not exceed US 83.25 thousand tons.

152.2 thousand tons of quota will be taken by Sweden (SSAB), 127.1 thousand tons - by France (ArcelorMittal) and 113.7 thousand tons by Italy.

As Argus points out, the total supply volumes will not be very significant, so the increase in exports of flat products to the United States will not lead to a significant increase in tension in the European market.

Tata Steel has shipped 226.35 thousand tons of sheet metal to the US as of November 22, according to customs services data. Replacing steel tariffs with a quota would allow it to increase exports to the US by about 240-250 thousand tons per year for ten steel product lines.
