Taiwan’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco), has announced an increase of NT$1,000 per ton for 304 cold-rolled and hot-rolled stainless steel coils for March. This marks the second consecutive month of price hikes. Meanwhile, the surcharge for 316L stainless steel products and the price of 430 stainless steel products remain unchanged.
The price adjustment follows rising costs of key raw materials such as nickel pig iron and ferrochrome, along with persistently high stainless steel scrap prices. In response to these elevated input costs, Taiwanese stainless steel producers are adjusting their pricing strategies accordingly.
Additionally, the US is set to introduce new tariff measures and revoke exemption qualifications for certain countries. This move could present opportunities for Taiwan’s export market. However, downstream buyers remain cautious, citing weak market demand following the announcement of the new tariffs. Industry players are closely monitoring end-user demand trends to assess market developments in the coming weeks.
