Switzerland saves energy

The Swiss government has set a target of reducing natural gas consumption by 15 percent in winter to avoid the possible negative effects of the energy crisis.

Switzerland saves energy

In the statement made by the government, it was reported that a voluntary savings campaign was launched to reduce natural gas demand and consumption across the country between October 2022 and March 2023.

In this context, it was noted that it is aimed to save 15 percent from natural gas use until the end of the winter period next year.

It was emphasized that reducing the heat setting in heaters such as central heating and combi boilers by one level can save 5 to 6 percent, and this rate can increase to 20 percent if the dual fuel system in apartments and office buildings is optionally converted from natural gas to liquid fuel.

It was stated that the details of the savings campaign will be shared in September.

Generator demands increased

On the other hand, the possibility of power outages in the country during the winter due to the energy crisis has increased the demand for electricity generators throughout Switzerland.

Alex Hammerli, spokesperson of Digitec Galaxus, Switzerland's most used online shopping site, told the Swissinfo.ch news site that the demand for portable power stations and generators has increased since July.

"In July of this year, we sold 9 times more portable power stations and 4 times more electric generators than last year," Hammerli said. used the phrase.
