Sweden-based steelmaker SSAB has signed an agreement with wave energy technology developer CorPower Ocean to develop the world's first wave power plant built with fossil-free steel.
CorPower Ocean will use fossil-free steel supplied by SSAB to build a wave energy system with carbon emissions much lower than those currently on the market.
SSAB aims to integrate fossil-free steel into CorPower Ocean's commercial products from 2026.
The company also aims to supply fossil-free steel to the market on a commercial scale in 2026 and to substantially reduce CO2 emissions from its operations around 2030.
