Southeastern European crude steel production declines in 2022

Crude steel production in Southeast Europe fell by 34.7% to 7.38 million tons in 2022 compared to 2021.

Southeast European crude steel production increased 37.5% in 2021 compared to 2020 and reached 8.36 million tons.

Crude steel production in the region decreased by 34.7% to 7.38 million tons in 2022 compared to 2021. With crude steel production down 19.6% to 2.71 million tons, Romania became the largest steel producer in Southeast Europe.

Producing 1.67 million tons of steel in 2022, an increase of 0.3%, Serbia became the second largest steel producer in the region.

Bosnia, which produced 890,000 tons of steel with an increase of 15%, ranked third, followed by Slovenia, which produced 601,000 tons with a decrease of 9.2%.

Ranking fifth, Moldova produced 560,000 tons of crude steel in 2022, down 1.8%.

Bulgaria, the sixth largest steelmaker, produced 530,000 tons, down 3.2 percent year on year, while North Macedonia was in seventh place, producing 248,000 tons of crude steel, down 21.4%.

The eighth ranked country was Croatia with 165,000 tons of crude steel production, down 11%.
