ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar GmbH, Dillingen, Germany, has partnered with Paul Wurth, a subsidiary of SMS group, to carry out a comprehensive modernization of blast furnace 4 (BF4).
The project intends to extend the service life of the furnace and increase the operational efficiency of the hearth lining. SMS group is providing the necessary support for the Paul Wurth furnace lining, delivery and installation.
In 2003, Paul Wurth expanded and recoated blast furnace No. 4, which was built in the late 1970s. After 22 years, Paul Wurth has taken on the task again. The last recoating of blast furnace 4, with a usable volume of 2,460 cubic meters and a daily output of 6,400 tons, took place in 2016.

The modernization of blast furnace 4 is planned to be completed in the third quarter of 2025, with a shutdown time of only 55 days.
