Slovenska Industrija Jekla (SIJ), one of the leading stainless steel producers in Central Europe, announced that it has suspended operations of its SIJ Acroni plant for up to three months.
On July 13, an accident occurred in the hot rolling mill at the enterprise. There were no casualties or injuries, but the mill's main engine has failed and is in serious need of repair. According to the company, no layoffs are planned during the outage.
SIJ Acroni's design capacity is 800 thousand tons per year. The plant melts stainless and special grades of steel, including tool steels, and produces stainless hot-rolled (including plate) and cold-rolled steel.
