Serbian Prime Minister: "HBIS Serbia aims at hydrogen energy"

HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel plans to use hydrogen as an energy source at its Smederevo plant, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing earlier this week.

Stating that economic relations between Serbia and China are good, Brnabic added that he expects a new era in relations and mutual trade to develop after the signing of the free trade agreement. Xi Jinping said he aims to visit Serbia next year.

At the same time, Brnabic emphasised that the future of the Smederevo steel mill is completely secure and that HBIS Group, as the owner of the company, has clear plans for additional investments.

"The next focus of the second round of investments is energy efficiency and green transformation, and HBIS also plans to run part of the ironworks on hydrogen to implement the idea that there will be no harmful gas emissions in the next few decades," said Brnabic.
