Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) and SEE Holding have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step forward in advancing sustainable construction practices in the region. The collaboration will emphasize integrating low-carbon steel into future projects, aligning with AGSI’s goal of selecting sustainable materials to support its net-zero targets. Both organizations will also explore ways to foster circular economy practices, focusing on the recycling and repurposing of steel products to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.
The MoU was signed at the SEE Institute, a pioneering net-zero emissions building in the region, which also serves as a key knowledge partner for AGSI, symbolizing their shared commitment to environmental responsibility.
Asam Hussain, CEO of AGSI, commented: “This partnership with SEE Holding marks an important milestone in our efforts to drive sustainable change in the UAE’s construction sector. Together, we aim to make low-carbon materials a fundamental part of the industry, pushing forward the decarbonization of hard-to-reduce sectors. This collaboration will enhance environmental sustainability and generate positive social and economic outcomes.”
Beyond material selection, the partnership will focus on research and development (R&D), innovating methods to further integrate low-carbon steel into construction. Both companies will collaborate to refine techniques that enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions in building projects.
Faris Saeed, Chairman & CEO of SEE Holding, stated: “Achieving net-zero emissions requires a holistic approach, addressing both embodied and operational emissions in every aspect of construction. Our partnership with AGSI supports our goal of choosing sustainable materials that contribute to net-zero while driving innovation in the development of sustainable cities. Together, we seek to lead the transformation of construction practices across the region, reshaping how sustainable infrastructure is designed and built.”
AGSI operates the world’s first carbon-neutral steel plant and low-carbon steel manufacturing facility in the UAE. The company is at the forefront of producing low-carbon products, which play a vital role in decarbonizing both the steel industry and the built environment. By utilizing 100% recycled low-carbon steel, AGSI aims to significantly lower embodied emissions while maintaining high standards of durability and strength for modern construction. AGSI’s cutting-edge facilities are designed to minimize waste and energy usage, aligning with SEE Holding’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
Additionally, AGSI and SEE Holding have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SEE Institute, committing to advancing knowledge and educational initiatives. The partnership will introduce training programs for architects, engineers, and construction professionals, aimed at raising awareness about the advantages of low-carbon steel and promoting its widespread adoption. The collaboration will also prioritize performance monitoring, with robust reporting systems to track environmental impacts, measure emission reductions, and ensure transparency in project outcomes.
