Salzgitter announced that a fire broke out “for unknown reasons” in the upstream area of its hot rolling mill on February 25. The company stated that it is working hard to maintain supply and that the mill will not be able to return to production at full capacity until the repair process is completed. Customers are expected to be flexible in delivery processes, while extensive measures are being taken to resume operations as soon as possible.
Salzgitter declared in a statement: “Due to the damage and the consequent urgent repairs required, production at our hot strip mill is currently interrupted, as there are no additional hot strip mills at our integrated steel plant, the production plans that follow the hot strip mill in our production process will probably not be able to produce at full capacity until the necessary repairs are completed. We are intensively carrying out the necessary repair measures and hope to resume production as soon as possible.”
