The Board of Directors of Russian Railways has approved a 0.5 coefficient to the tariff for the carriage of ferrous metals in wagons passing through stations on the Russian-Kazakh border and then through Sarakhs or Akyaila stations on the territory of Turkmenistan.
The North-South is an international transport corridor between Russia, India and Iran. The eastern line forms a direct railway connection. The new branch goes directly from Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan, skipping the territory of Uzbekistan, and goes to Iran.
The discount will be valid until the end of 2024 and will cover a wide range of cargoes, including steel bars, billets, slabs, ferroalloys, pipes, rails, profiles, steel channels, steel sheets and others.
Russian Railways emphasises that this decision, adopted as part of the tariff policy with partners in the North-South corridor, will significantly improve conditions for the export of steel products to Asian countries, which have become one of the key markets for Russian ferrous metal products.
