Although the U.S. imports only a small portion of aluminum from Russia, according to official data, the U.S. imported about 11% of the 92,600 tons of nickel from Russia in 2022. In total imports, Russia imported about 20 tons of palladium.
The U.S. could impose high duties on aluminum imported from Russia to put more pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine. If this happens, Russia may have to restrict exports of important metals, including nickel and palladium.
