Recycling Lives completes acquisition of MWR

Preston-based Recycling Lives completed its acquisition of Metal & Waste Recycling Ltd (MWR) this week.

Recycling Lives completes acquisition of MWR

The acquisition follows a process conducted by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which was put in place following the acquisition of MWR by European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR) in 2017. The CMA decided that EMR should sell parts of the MWR business.

Recycling Lives now owns MWR's Hitchin shredder plant and seven other sites in the South East, North East, Midlands and South Wales. This brings the total number of sites owned by the company to 19.

William Fletcher, CEO of Recycling Lives, said: "We are excited to have completed this acquisition as part of our ongoing growth strategy.

"MWR has a long and successful track record which together will provide a solid foundation for our future. We look forward to working with its team and finding ways to develop each other's businesses."

Recycling Lives processes and recycles scrap metal, scrap cars, waste and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), using the proceeds to support a social enterprise that offers jobs and training to offenders and other vulnerable individuals. In January, Recycling Lives reported 2017/18 sales of £75 million, up 61% on the previous year.
