Qarmet initiates planned shutdown for repair of BOF No.1

At Qarmet's steelmaking plant, a planned shutdown of BOF No.1 has begun for a major repair that will last 3 months. The main activity of the repair campaign will be to replace the converter body and carry out the necessary repair works to ensure its smooth and efficient operation in the future.

During the repair period, steel production at Qarmet will be carried out at converters No.2 and No.3.

After the repair and commissioning works are completed, BOF No. 1 will be back in operation and thus Qarmet plans to increase its production capacity.

According to the Steel Department's report, the plant closed the half-year on a positive note, realising 102% of production and shipments in the second quarter of 2024. In May, the No. 2 converter body made by Danieli was replaced. Further plans include the repair of the mixer section and the continuous casting machine.
