Primetals Technologies collaborates with Yantai Walsin on new stainless steel mill

Primetals Technologies announced its collaboration with Yantai Walsin on a new stainless steel mill.

Primetals Technologies collaborates with Yantai Walsin on new stainless steel mill

According to information provided by Primetals, Primetals Technologies has received the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for a new stainless steel combination plant from Yantai Walsin Stainless Steel in China. The plant, which opened in response to increasing demand for high-quality stainless steel products in China, is said to have a capacity of 420,000 tonnes per year of stainless steel and nickel alloy products.

The new plant enables Yantai Walsin to convert billets into finished products with tighter tolerances and better surface quality at their existing facility. This is said to reduce the amount of peeling after processing, thereby lowering costs.

Primetals Technologies designed the plant to allow for the future addition of an in-line solution for the direct processing of strip products.

In a letter highlighting Primetals Technologies as the consortium leader for this project, Wen-Nan Hung, Vice President of Engineering at Yantai Walsin, stated, "Throughout the project, Primetals Technologies has taken full responsibility for several critical aspects, including process design, process layout, and overall project execution." He added: "We consider Primetals Technologies to be a reliable and highly competent partner. Their contributions have been instrumental in the successful completion of the project."

Founded in 1966, Walsin Lihwa Corporation is an industrial holding company with operations spanning wire and cable, stainless steel, and renewable energy. Overall, the new plant is said to be designed to provide Yantai Walsin with a competitive advantage and offer customers higher quality products.
