The Kazakh automotive company Orbis Kazakhstan announced the construction of an automobile plant in Almaty to produce cars under the brand of Chinese manufacturer KAIYI.

Orbis Kazakhstan partners with Chinese manufacturer KAIYI to construct automobile plant in Almaty

An agreement was signed on March 26th between Sukhrab Mahmudov, President of Orbis Kazakhstan, and Gao Leem, General Director of Yibin Kaiyi Automobile Co., Ltd, According to plans, construction of a full-cycle automotive plant Orbis Kazakhstan will begin in the second quarter of 2024 in the industrial zone of Almaty. The estimated annual capacity of the plant will be 80 thousand cars, which contributes to the creation of more than 1.5 thousand new workplaces.

The signed memorandum gives Orbis Kazakhstan the right to produce vehicles under the KAIYI brand at the new plant. According to this agreement, the Chinese partner will provide the company with all necessary technical documentation and send specialists to support production and control the technological process.

Sukhrab Mahmudov emphasised that the main goal of the project is to offer Kazakhstan consumers modern and affordable cars, and stressed the investment of more than $160 million to achieve this goal. He expressed confidence that the project contributes to strengthening trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and China, as well as stimulating exports of products from Kazakhstan.

In 2023, the subsidiary Orbis Auto acquired the exclusive right to sell and service KAIYI cars in Kazakhstan. Today, the company is actively developing a dealer network across the country to effectively distribute vehicles produced at the new plant.

Another important step in the development of Kazakhstan's automotive industry was Orbis Kazakhstan's agreement with EXEED International in May last year to localise the production of this brand's vehicles in the country.
