Oman has announced its third green hydrogen tender round to strengthen its vision for global leadership in green hydrogen. Announced at Hydrom's first gH2 Investor Day event, this new tender will open for bids in Q1 2025, with winning projects expected to be announced in Q4 2025 to Q1 2026. In this round, processes have been further optimised based on the experience gained from previous auctions. Innovative block allocation strategies and mechanisms such as two-sided auctions are planned to align hydrogen production with sectors such as green steel and fertiliser.
Localisation is positioned as a priority objective
H.E. Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals and President of Hydrom, stated that Oman aims to become an attractive centre for green hydrogen projects both locally and globally. Localisation was positioned as a priority goal while the infrastructure was being made ready. In addition, the development of Port of Duqm as a logistics hub for liquid hydrogen exports to Europe via the Port of Amsterdam and Asia-Pacific markets via Singapore further reinforces Oman's role in energy transit.
Eng. Abdulaziz Said al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, emphasised that the gH2 Investor Day event once again demonstrated the global confidence and interest in Oman's green hydrogen vision. He stated that the cooperation opportunities and ideas shared at the event will contribute greatly to both the country's sustainable energy projects and economic growth. With these steps, Oman aims not only to be a leader in the field of renewable energy, but also to play a leading role in the global energy transformation by offering sustainable solutions to the world.
