US-based steelmaker Nucor Corporation had a ceremonial groundbreaking on August 25 to celebrate the construction of a new recycled-steel micro mill of rebar production in Lexington, which was aimed to be put into operation by 2024, with an annual production capacity of 430,000 tons.
The investment of this micro mill is US$350 million. The company began hiring for the mill earlier this year. Around 200 full-time employees will be needed for the mill, and 500 workers will be hired during construction.
Nucor announced in April that it would set up a rebar micro mill in Lexington, which will be the third rebar mill in the US. The other two mills are in Missouri and Florida.
